Artist statement


The Contested Landscape Field Study, run by the Environment Studio at Canberra School of Art in conjunction with C.S.I.R.O, gave artists ample opportunity to respond to issues in the Cumberland Plain behind Sydney.

Once a major food growing area for the city population, now these fertile alluvial flats of the Hawksbury River host an ever increasing density of urban sprawl, and industries to support it such as turf farms and golf courses.

The serendipitous finding of silk screens covered with disused real estate slogans, bleeds a powerful statement regarding the moral compass of developers, in light of an ever increasing population and food insecurity.
